Online Casinos Pose Risk, but are Considered Safe
Author: Chris // Category: Online Casino News
Online security. That may be an oxymoron. Everything is online. Everybody is online. Everybody’s everything is online. (Think about it, it makes sense.) With so much information out there online crime is one of the fastest growing enterprises in the world. There is so much for the baddies to do. Everyone knows about spam, and viruses. They are annoying, and they can temporarily shut down a computer and a network. Then there is the more serious stuff. Identity theft has become a part of life. It seems like it is going to happen to everyone someday somehow. With e-commerce ruling the retail world there is just way to much information spinning around, and it is way to easy to get a hold of it. After that it gets scary. Online stalking has lead to some horrific scenes, but let’s not go there now. How does this affect the online casino and gambling industry?
A report that came out of Secure Magazine cited a survey performed by Avira that talked about how the consumer felt about online security. It seems that over one third of those polls feel that there is no reprieve. ‘Where do you suspect is the greatest danger of malware infection on the internet?’ Thirty-four percent said, all websites are at risk. Of course adult websites ran the most risk. Surprisingly, though, the online casino industry ranked okay in the poll. Only thirteen percent of those polled thought online casinos held the highest risk.
Online security experts feel that awareness is the key. The easiest way to avoid internet crime is to know what kind of sites to trust. There are good and bad. Everything can be penetrated. With the online casino industry there are watchdog groups that rate security for online casinos. Smart players will look for these seals of approval, and not just trust any online casino that boasts a bog jackpot. Some signs are obvious, and some are well hidden. Rule of thumb: if you think it’s bad, try something else.
