British bookmakers are beginning to take a stand on the wagering in profits that have been occurring in the horseracing industry. According to the British horseracing Authority it has peaked numbers of over £3.7 billion in profits in the last year. This sizable account has not trickled down back to the British horseracing Authority, and therefore they’re fighting for their fair share of the profits. Last year the bookmakers only released £118 million of these gambling profits back into the governmental system, and now the horseracing Authority is looking to change their percentage.

As casinos and online gambling venues continue to open governments will need to adjust their taxes on these profits based on the continued growth and loss from year-to-year. According to the sports business group horseracing falls in line just below soccer as far as participate in and gambling options throughout the United Kingdom. This huge industry continues to grow from year-to-year as its recent expansion to £3.7 billion from the 2005 members of £2.8 billion.

These recent results are attributed to studies that were brought about by the horseracing Authority in order to generate more income from the gambling community. The numbers generated for gambling on horse racing in the United Kingdom placed them in second just under the profits generated by Japan. Japan’s total generated revenue from gambling on horse racing came to nearly £14 billion whereas the United Kingdom came in at £12.1 billion. Further investigation of the study showed that the United States and France draw an 8% of their money wagered in the horserace gambling arena.

Nic Coward of the British horseracing Authority has spoken out against the lack of funding from the second largest generating gambling ventures by stating that horserace gambling is largely thoughtful for a bulk of the money generated for leisure, agricultural and rural economies. As of this report, British horseracing has drawn in nearly £1.5 billion in tax revenues that will swiftly go to the government.
