Expedia.com is also benefiting from the recession in dealing with Las Vegas hotels and casinos. Las Vegas has been Expedia’s top vacation destination for many years and now they get to offer massive discounts in order to sway customers to travel to their favorite destination.

In comparison to a year ago Expedia.com and hotels.com have seen double digits in terms of bookings for Las Vegas hotels and casinos. These large discounts are drawing in tourists by creating once-in-a-lifetime rates. Gamblers are used to a certain costs associated with a Las Vegas hotel and now they are seen four and five-star hotel rates comparable to that of two in three-star hotel rates in years past.

Las Vegas hotels and casinos have not seen the end of their challenges during this recession. Currently there are more rooms available in Las Vegas than in years past and that number is only going to get worse. As the CityCenter opens it will be an additional 4000 rooms at the Aria Hotel available for guests. Initial plan for the CityCenter’s gambling hotel was to start the roommates at $359 per night. This is the expected goal for January when they bring in the consumer electronics show. The high price hotel rooms are expected to go for $700 a night during this convention.

The price wars wage on in Las Vegas casinos as a declining economy is causing the large resorts to compete in order to gain customers. From the customer standpoint this is the best time to go to Las Vegas to gamble.

Last week saw many of the hotel casino resorts competing for customers to the extent of the encore Hotel and Casino offering sweets for $109 per night with a $50 credit towards resort purchases.

Rob Kronman, from Los Angeles was expecting to pay nearly $400 for this suite. “I’ve stayed at the Hilton and Monte Carlo but this was a whole level above,” he said. “It was an extraordinary stay in what was probably a $400 room.”

Jackie Degreggorio snagged a spot at the lodge your hotel and casino for $180 a night and a total of four nights. Her room gave her a view of the fountain show has become famous in the city of Las Vegas. This was more than a bargain for a Philadelphia schoolteacher.

“I probably would have paid more, but I felt better about getting the discount,” Degregorio said. “It was definitely worth it.”

Now the management team at the hotel casino night club have been replaced and owner Roman Jones is planning on keeping a tight grip on the venue. “I’m going to be spending much more time on property until I feel confident that the operation is running smoothly and to the level we want and the community expects,” Jones said. “Once we go through this process it’s going to bring a higher standard to all nightclub operations in Las Vegas. The outcome will be positive.”

According to Jones, he believes that this crackdown is going to lead to a shift in the culture of the clubs on the Las Vegas Strips. Many clubs that are operating inside hotel casino resorts feel immune to the regulations and feel that they are tucked away enough to not get caught. This lends itself very well to the phrase “What happens in Vegas…” However with this new enforcement of regulation these night clubs will soon change their tune or face a hefty fine such as the $500,000 that Prive’ and Living Room faced for their violations.

Another change that has occurs remains in the casino personnel staff. Before the crackdown, hotel casino personnel had to be escorted through the casino club by security. Now they have the freedom to walk through unaccompanied. This allows for one more set of eyes to observe the regulations of the night club.

“I find myself very, very confident that it’s a seamless operation (between the club and resort),” Jones said. “That is really the key to the success of the club.”

There has been a huge crackdown in the hotel and casino industry for violations. Recently the Planet Hollywood hotel and casino night club lost their liquor license for violating many safety regulations. In July both the Living Room club and the Prive’ were without their licenses as of July of this year.

Now guests didn’t seem to notice that the club inside the hotel casino was closed down as every weekend is a new batch of tourists ready to walk in and enjoy. The bars located in the hotel casinos received a temporary license just five hours before opening their doors.

“The weekend is about visitors to the city,” Planet Hollywood founder and hotel and casino resort co-owner Robert Earl said Friday. “I am expecting them not to even be aware of the problems that occurred because they’re a crowd who in the last month haven’t been to town.”

“The reality is there is nothing that has happened that would really concern the patrons,” Privé principal owner Roman Jones said Friday. “But we’re going to be very, very careful to manage.”

According to the Clark County Business License Department, the hotel and casino clubs lost their licenses due to poor oversight by the management team which caused them to be charged with three violations. One violation included the club security allowing topless activity within the bar.

The casino and restaurants of the Planet Hollywood resort were directly effected by the closing of the night club as it drew nighttime guests to other venue that offered night club activities.

“A nightclub is an important component of each of the properties on the Strip,” Earl said. “It brings a different crowd at different hours that consume different product.”

After the Casino regulators stepped in to stop the activity, the night club is ready and willing to participate and no longer take risks. “It has caused us to have increased vigilance,” Earl said. “We clearly dissatisfied the (casino regulators) and it is our full intention for that not to occur again.”
