The United Kingdom Advertising Standards Authority has a new beef with an online gambling company for an e-mail marketing program that was recently released. The issue was extended to the British online gambling operator, Betfair Limited. In their marketing strategy, the online gambling company in released an e-mail advertisement that showed off a sexy, top-notch professional poker player, Annette Obrestad.

The slogan for the new online was merely just a picture of the professional with the words written, ‘online experience is measured in games, not years. Join the new breed’.

Clearly the online gambling company was trying to hit that the younger players and draw in a stronger demographic. The picture of the 20-year-old poker player was to assist in this process by appealing to young men in 20 to 35 year age range. This is a strong demographic that could lead to increased potential revenue in the company was ready to search for new blood.

According to the United Kingdom’s ASA, the advertisement was believed to be catering to people that were much younger, including underage gamblers. With the online poker player being featured at only 20 years old, the standards require that any face that was used for must be at least 25 years of age in order to become the focus of an online gambling campaign.

Since the model was under that legal limit, the ASA feared that it would be drawing in minors to the online casino gambling world. Betfair stated that it was not advertising for underage gamblers, and suggested that it’s e-mail techniques and marketing through sophisticated technology was placing advertisements in the legal gambling demographic.
