France continues to debate whether or not they will legalize online casino gambling as their recent amendment that has come forth could possibly extinguish many of the larger online casino companies. France’s national assembly is battling the legislation and should have come to a vote within the last week. As they are opening the doors to online casino gambling, they have also decided to regulate a tax that would allow the government to acquire 2% of the income generated by online casino gambling operators. This tax would be used to assist in programs that would prevent problem gambling as well as create protective measures for the safety and security of online casino gamblers.

These gambling operators would be required to be licensed for each individual sport that they will be providing wagering services. This type of system is gaining momentum throughout the world as the largest online casino gambling contributor, the United Kingdom is also considering this type of legislation in order to bring about more strict regulations and provide for online consumer safety. By creating these measures the government will benefit from the outpouring of profits generated by online casino gambling.

Problem gambling as well as under age gambling are two major concerns that affect every government around the world. These two concerns have to be addressed in order to continue to safely run online casino gambling venues regulated by the government. Many larger companies such as BEtfair who have been long established in the online casino market are prepared to stand firm in their stance against further pressure and regulation by the government. According to Mark Davies, managing director of Betfair, “It is fairly clearly discriminatory against the biggest and most competitive online operator in Europe. It is a slap in the face for the consumer.” This type of legislation would cause larger companies to acquire separate licenses where they now are only bound by one.
