Hollywood has seen its fair share of depicting real-life competitions and events. Now for the first time, a Chinese language film is being created to depict the gambling sport of poker.

AsianLogic Limited is going to take advantage of the Asian poker tour that is going to be based out of Macau this year by using this particular gambling tournament as the setting of a new Chinese film.

Currently named “Poker King,” the film will tell the story of two poker rivals who end up head-to-head in a championship. The film will be directed by the Chinese team of Chan Hing-Kai and Janet Chun who also were the writers of this feature as they capture the intensity of casino gambling.

The production is currently filming will take advantage of the August 12 through the August 23 poker tournament at the Macau Festival. The event will take place at the galaxy StarWorld Hotel and Casino and will start with a buy in of $4300. The tournament has a great amount of buzz that it will feature many different events including high limit games, sit and go tables and the official poker tournament.

“This is a very exciting project and is sure to provoke even more excitement about the APT Macau Festival in August,” said Tom Hall, Chief Executive Officer for AsianLogic.

According to Hall this will be a great opportunity to be involved in the casino poker tournament as well as the featured in a film. “Players across the region and throughout the world are encouraged to come to the Galaxy StarWorld Hotel And Casino and play at the APT Macau Festival. The movie crew will need lots of extras and even players to take on roles if they choose.”

The purpose of this Chinese film is to once again popularize casino gambling as did the movie Rounders. “Rounders, starring Matt Damon and Edward Norton, is always highlighted as a key catalyst for the growth of poker in the western world. Poker King has the promise to deliver this and potentially much more. Gross revenue from poker in Macau is estimated to have risen by 400 percent in 2008 alone and continues to rise. With this blockbuster movie, the game could become even more popular in a land where baccarat is king.”
