It appears as though the worst part of the the declining economy may be behind us. Now, that doesn’t mean that there wont still be some tough times ahead, it just hopefully means that we have gone as low as we will possibly go before making our steady incline back up. Throughout the past few years the economy has hit the gambling industry really hard. The lack of tourism has not only affected the airlines and the hotel business, but one of the first things to go when money gets tight is entertainment. That is where the casinos were hurt.

Now 2010 has started off with a bang, and a more positive outlook for the future. After coming down from all the tech hype in the past 10 years and the dot com surge, then crash, people seem to be realizing that a smart business plan is to stay within your means, and save for the future of the company. Many Land-based casinos had to learn this theory the hard way as many suffered a dramatic hit, even bankruptcy.

The gambling stocks however are on their way back up. It is hard to tell the impact this early of the new grand opening of the CityCenter in Las Vegas, but chances are good that the stocks and the positive perception is coming from the reality that even through some of the toughest time, the gambling corporation was able to pull out all stops and make it all work. Even when they were faced with financial difficulties with Dubai World, they found a way to open a couple of hotels with casinos on their way.

The stocks of the past month have shown that seven out of ten casino operators saw an increase in their sock prices for the month of January. Of course with the huge casino gambling megaplex opening it’s doors, MGM saw the largest increase of the publicly traded stocks. Now with $8.5 billion invested in the venue and an extra 4004 rooms added to their accommodations, it looks to be a good rebuilding year for the MGM Mirage hotel and casino company.
