Due to the tight laws and regulations in place, online gambling in the United States is sub-par compared to the online casino communities in Europe. The U.K. is leading with great strides in innovation and distribution, but they are also leading the U.S. in encompassing the entire field of online gambling, including addictions.
“GamCare is leading the way in providing support for those with a gambling problem, helping thousands of people since it was founded in 1997. It is great to see the organization finding new ways to reach out and I want to hear more about the new OnLine Counseling initiative, offering counseling over the Internet,” said Sports Minister Gerry Sutcliffe.
GameCare has taken a new approach to the problem of online gambling. Their OnLine Counseling will allow problem gamblers a chance to receive counseling through the internet as opposed to the more traditional counseling methods. According to research studies people with addictions feel more comfortable dealing with their problems over the internet rather than in face to face counseling sessions. This amount of privacy allows them to open up more in their own private comfort rather than being subjected to the cold couch of an unfamiliar environment. The hope of utilizing this new technology is to lessen the burden with families by creating less stress for the problem gambler.
GameCare has involved the government to make sure that the online gaming operators are fully funding the program and to ensure that there is sufficient funds to keep the program intact.
“Over the past eleven years, GamCare has developed its services to meet the needs of its callers and clients. Recognizing the nature of the ‘hidden addiction’ and the stigma still, unfortunately, associated with it, together with gambling becoming more accessible to less traditional audiences, we have developed our specialist OnLine Counselling Service. This vital professional and specialist service is delivered free to clients,” said Adrian Scarfe, Head of Clinical Services.
