Is There Hope for “Dying” Atlantic City Casinos? Part II
Author: Chris // Category: Las Vegas CasinosBelieve it or not there is one guy who thinks Atlantic City is poised to be the comeback kid of the new century. Long time casino insider Dennis Gomes is the positive one. He is the lone voice of hope in a sea a darkness which consists of analysts who see the end of Atlantic City. “Right now, there is a lot of doom and gloom from Wall Street,” commented Mr. Gomes. He added, however, “It comes in cycles. I really believe there is a tremendous amount of opportunity here.” He may have a point. Even though Atlantic City has been in a slump, so has the rest of the country. Through it all Atlantic City is still number two in casino resort action next to the Las Vegas Strip. This is contributed to its high concentration of casino resorts.
Dennis Gomes recently put his money where his mouth is. More accurately his companies money. Gomes Gaming Inc. purchased the grand daddy of Atlantic City casino resorts, Resorts Casino Hotel. Resorts Casino was the first casino resort opened when New Jersey legalized gaming in the state back in the 1970’s. To some it may feel old, but Mr. Gomes feels it is best to start recovery at the very beginning. He stated a fact that he feels is not well known and should be, “The property is in good condition.”
Mr. Gomes should know. He has been an active member of the casino and casino resort industry in the United States for a very long time. He has worked for some of the best including Wynn Resorts, Golden Nugget, Dunes, Aladdin, and the Tropicana and the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City itself.
Those who believe in Atlantic City, believe in Dennis Gomes. “This investment is a clear indication that there is a great deal of potential in this market,” stated New Jersey Casino Control Commission Chairwoman, LInda Kassekert. There has been a lot of bad news coming out of the casinos in Atlantic City. Perhaps it will take just one optimistic person to change the attitude of the city.
