Right2Bet Still Making Case Against EU Online Gambling Practices

Those who are a part of the online casino and gambling community are familiar with the group Right2Bet. Right2Bet is an activist group that promotes and protects citizens right to choose what kind of online gambling in which they wish to protect. According to their website Right2Bet’s mission is to, “ensure that the principles of economic freedom in the European Union are applied as fairly to betting and gaming as they are to any other sector.” In a nut shell this mean free trade is one of the cornerstones of the European Union. Right2Bet feels that online gambling is a product or a service like any other and should be treated as such.

One of the major problems Right2Bet has with some European Union member nations is state run online gambling monopolies. A few European Union states only allow their citizens to gambling online in with sites that are controlled and run by the state. Governments believe they are doing their best to protect consumers. Right2Bet feels the monopolies actually hurt the consumers. Right2Bet has ferociously stated that state run monopolies are inferior products to online gambling ventures run through the private sector. Inferior products force the online gambling public out to the black market where they are not protected. Right2Bet feels that if the governments were to accept regulated online gambling throughout the European Union their citizens would not only enjoy a better online gambling product, but better consumer protection.

Recently the European Union Council released their progress report on online casinos and gambling laws. It was no surprise when Right2Bet came out with harsh criticism. Right2Bet took special exception to the wording of the definition of what the Council considers to be illegal online gambling. “Illegal gambling may be defined as gambling in which operators do not comply with the national law of the country where services are offered, provided those national laws are in accordance with EU Treaty principles.” Right2Bet can not define how to measure whether or not national laws meet EU standards.

The case Right2Bet has against EU online gambling practices will go on for what seems like forever. They make pretty strong claims and are never afraid to express them. On a lighter note, check out their Renegade Ref series online. It makes a point, but it also makes you laugh.
