Yesterday, the state of Pennsylvania celebrated the opening of blackjack tables and other table games at their area casinos with style. The Mohegan Sun casino was the site for the biggest and most impressive grand-opening ceremony.
At the Mohegan Sun, the tribe vice chairman, Bruce “Two Dogs” Bozsum, burned incense and offered a good-luck blessing to the casino. Four customers were then chosen at random to take part in a ceremonial blackjack hand. It was a free hand, with a winning hand worth $25,000 or a new Mercedes. Two of the players won the hand and claimed the prize money (I guess they didn’t want the car). The two players who lost to the dealer still did pretty well, though, winning a $5,000 consolation prize.
The Mohegan Sun also used the opening ceremony to present a $12,000 donation to the United Way charity, which had been won during a recent charity blackjack tournament held at the casino. After the blackjack ceremony was over, the casino opened the rest of the tables to the customers.
In all, the Mohegan Sun casino has 46 new tables, including 16 poker tables. The Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs is located in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania and is owned by the Mohegan Native American Tribe.
