Earlier this month I reported that ARJEL, the new online gambling regulation agency in France, issued its first set of licenses for their new online gambling market. They hoped to get as many approved as possible before the World Cup started, since it is a huge subject of sports betting. Now ARJEL has approved some more licenses.
Five more online gambling operators have been issued French licenses by ARJEL. The biggest name is PokerStars, which is the biggest online poker site and a major sponsor of the European Poker Tour. Another big name in the industry, PartyGaming, was awarded licenses for five of their different brands. Their PartyPoker website was given an online poker license while PartyBets and GameBookers have been given sports betting licenses. They also opened two new online casinos specifically for the French market.
The other three online gambling operators granted licenses are FriendBet, ChiliPoker and Partouche. Of all of the new licenses awarded, the poker room and online casino licenses cannot yet start operations in France. The sports betting sites can begin immediately, though, to take advantage of World Cup betting.
